According to UAE Ministry of Education, Graduates with engineering, business, IT or medical sciences degrees have the best chances of employment.

But we all how can we secure a dream job here in this competitive market ?

Many nationalities reaching every year with graduation & qualifications to this dream land, to become a winner. They have to cross a lot of hurdles in between though. Securing a position among others is always a challenging part.

As an employee here in UAE and been here for past 3 years, i tried the typical way of taking a Tourist visa and searched for my engineering jobs. I took many guidance and went days of research to get interviews, and ultimately to a job. Here am listing some of my tips it can add up on your research.

Basics

  • Make sure to take 3 month visit visa.
  • Be patient, it will take 2-3 weeks to get a response from recruiters.
  • Degree certificates to be attested from UAE Embassy in respective home country & UAE to be done while getting the job.

Getting knowledge about UAE’s Engineering Sector

UAE’s engineering sector is so diversified from Construction to Oil & Gas. With the exception of Dubai, most of the UAE is dependent on oil revenues.

5 important things to check before sending Cv to recruiters !

Humans always tends to make mistakes and here there is no second chance. After a lot of hurdles and spending on finding a similar job, there is no room for errors.

Before making Cv /Resume in to PDF format, make sure to double check these below details :

1. Spelling & Correct tenses ( Past vs Present )

Check grammar on your resume before clicking ‘submit’. Don’t just rely on Microsoft Word to catch misspellings, read and re-read your resume to catch potential errors. Then, send your resume to a friend to have them read through.

As a general rule, if an action or accomplishment on your resume is in the past, use the past tense. However, if you are speaking about a current role and current accomplishments, use the present tense. Hiring managers cringe when they see this mistake on a resume, so as you’re editing, be sure to use the correct tense: manage vs. managed, deliver vs. delivered, execute vs. executed.

Tip: Use online website like “Grammerly” or download it in laptop.

2. Font size and Consistency

“We only have one chance to make a first impression, so when someone opens a [resume], those first eight or nine seconds is that first impression,If the font isn’t appealing and easy on the eyes, that person clicks off the document and the candidate is toast.”

Stick to the basics — Helvetica, Times New Roman, Lato. Resist the urge to “stand out from the crowd” by employing multiple fonts and various sizes. Two fonts and two sizes, max.

3. Use Numbers & Facts Where Applicable

“Substantiate your accomplishments with numbers,” When you’re working in a job where your achievements are quantified, includingis the best way to get your application noticed. For example, if you’re in sales,how you exceeded your goals is a sure-fire way to impress a prospective employer. Some more recruiters prefer to see actual numbers (such as “Annual Sales of AED 1 Million”), while others prefer percentages (“Annual Sales by 15 percent”). Either way, provide enough context to show the impact and do not rely on generalities to get your point across.

4. Delivery Format

You’ve spent hours formatting your resume and getting the bullet points to line up perfectly so that your entire work history fits on two pages. Don’t lose that perfect format by sending a resume as a Microsoft Word doc. I recommend using a PDF and ensure clear delivery if the recruiter doesn’t insist any format . And don’t worry, PDF resumes are no longer a problem for an employer’s applicant tracking system (ATS). Keyword searchs and matching requirements will still be possible in a PDF format.

5. File Naming

Please refrain from naming your resume file “Resume.pdf” or “SanamResume.pdf” try to be specific. This is for your benefit as well as the recruiter. The best way to name a resume is to include your full name, month, and year. For example, “SanamBp-July2019.pdf.” This lets the recruiter know who you are and reminds you of the date of the last revision of this resume. This way, you won’t be confused by which draft is which.

11 Tips to update Linkedin profile for Job

When searching for a new career , Linkedin plays an important role in modern online era. We all know the basic networking of adding connections and sending automated messages like ” Congrats on new role” ” thanks for adding me “. What else we can do when it comes to serious approach .

Here i am covering some best tips to overhaul Linkedin profile to sell your skills, accomplishments and getting noticed by recruiters.

  1. Update the profile to make All star 100% : Linkedin always measures the completeness of the profile. Choose a professional photo, that adapts your charisma, energy and work environment. Try to fill the work experiences, school/college information, skills etc. Normally people tend to feel lazy to finish all details, but keep in mind it will be worth, when recruiters search every details.

2. Get a Custom URL : Customized URL (linkedin.com/yourname) can be obtained from Linkedin to share it easily to people. On the Edit Profile screen, at the bottom of the gray window that shows your basic information, you’ll see a Public Profile URL. Click “Edit” next to the URL, and specify what you’d like your address to be. When you’re finished, click Set Custom URL. This can also be shared with Email signatures. 3. Writing a headline to show speciality: I prefer to write a headline showing our value and interest. We should highlight what we are rather than writing job title or company information.

4. Updating work experience : When filling this section, the job responsibilities, challenges must be highlighted. Include “statistics”, “case studies”, challenges faced which proves success in last job. Key stats will help the recruiter to gain more insight about your skills & accomplishment.

5. Summary : Be yourself !! Use this space to summarize yourself . How many years of experience ?? In which sector you feel fit. Don’t use the over buzzed words like Creative, talented, expert, etc which wont make any impact nowadays.

6. Current job must be updated even if your Unemployed : Recruiters use current title box to search for candidates. Why we should be missed form those opportunities ?

7. Adding connections : Ignore LinkedIn’s advice to only accept connection requests from people you know. That helps sell Premium, but it doesn’t help you get found. LinkedIn’s search algorithm favors those who are in your network. That means when people are looking for what you have to offer, the results of their searches are displayed with 1st level connections first, then 2nd level connections and so on.

8. Use free premium option for 1 month: Be frugal ! If you want to reach out some people, Linkedin will show restrictions to connect and recommend to upgrade. Sign up for premium, do all the outreach you need to do to connect with those super-exclusive contacts. Mission accomplished? Cancel your Premium subscription.

9. Follow people & companies: Find companies that you feel interested to know the updates. Some firms will update the job vacancies. Also it will help to find people working their. Following the HR specialist, and keep a eye on their activities & posts regularly. Do this like a invisible man ! Change view setting to anonymous in “Select what others see when you’ve viewed their profile.”

10. Responding to In- Mails : If your shortlisted by a recruiter, they will forward a In-mail yo know your interest. Use enough preparations to send a professional email in response and nail the direct interview.

How important is “Skills” and ways to improve it.

Don’t confuse Movement with progress.

Some people spend a-lot of days, weeks and months to harness their new skills. It will help them to learn from basic to amateur level only, but when it comes to application / testing in professional level it will be way beyond. Why this happens to many people ??

Every fresh graduates aspiring for a new career find deep trouble for finding a perfect career. This due to lack of finding their skill or even lack of it. We must spend some quality time for finding our skills that developed during schooling & college period. After this we have to examine each of this to find whether its best to us. By this evaluation process, we can find the hurdles in-front of us.

In a recent article from financial express, 70% of Indian youth are not aware of government-run skill development programs. Though the Indian government is aiming to skill 40 crore people by 2022 though its ‘Skill India‘ program. We must use these kind of resources to upgrade ourselves and remember opportunity never knocks always.

A McKinsey report had flagged the issue more than a decade ago when it said just a quarter of engineers in India were actually employable. CP Gurnani, CEO & MD of Tech Mahindra, has said that 94% of engineering graduated were not fit for hiring. “The top 10 IT companies take only 6% of the engineering graduates. What happens to the remaining 94%?”
